There are so many robot vacuum cleaners out there.

How do you tell them apart?

Robot vacuum cleaners might look really fancy and awesome but is the suction any good?

Can it move between carpet and hardwood floors? Is it like a Dalek and baulks when it comes across stairs? Here we’ve demystified ‘which robot vacuum cleaner to get‘ for you. Roll on …

What is a Robotic vacuum cleaner anyhow?

If you’ve never seen a robotic vacuum cleaner it’s a bit like a remote control spinning chunky round frisbee on wheels about the thickness of a good book.  Except you don’t actively control it ,  it controls itself.

The robot vacuum cleaner is as valuable to today’s household as the automatic washing machine was when it first appeared. …..

And no one bats an eyelid if a washing machine switches itself on on a time delay.

So how does a Robot vacuum cleaner work?

Robot vacuum cleaners are a bit like crabs, their spinning brushes shovel in the dirt just as a crab shovels in food with their claws. Unlike a crab, instead of claws a robot vacuum has soft spinning brushes, oftentimes two of them. (Another difference is that I’d joyfully eat a crab but not a robot vacuum).

They also have one or two rolling brushes. Working together, the brushes and roller sweep the dust, dirt and debris in towards ‘ the mouth’ of the robot vacuum where the suction sucks it all up into the dustbin inside.

The robot vacuum scuttles along a lot more smoothly and swiftly, pottering along happily as it cleans.

And just like a crabs, robotic vacuum cleaners come in different shapes and sizes and even colors.
